Barnacle Goose in Alexandria, Virginia, USA January/February 2002
The Alexandria Barnacle Goose (Branta leucopsis) has been seen in Alexandria, Virginia, USA from January 6, 2002 until these photos were taken on February 2 and 3, 2002, and probably beyond.  It is hanging around with a flock of Canada Geese (Branta canadensis), which ranges from about 10 to 250 geese.
Here is a good size comparison with the Canada Goose
This female Belted Kingfisher (Ceryle alcyon) was watching the Barnacle Goose at Cook's Lake on February 2, 2002.
All photos on this page were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 990 digital camera coupled with a Swarovski AT 80 spotting scope using an Eagle Eye Optics Digimount adapter and Extend-a-view sun shade.
My wife and I estimated the flock of Canada Geese at Joseph Hensley Ballpark using two different methods and we both arrived at 250 geese.
