Digiscopy - 10
The images on this page are of birds on the Potomac River in April 2004, just outside of Washington, DC.  They represent two different days of hiking by the C&O Canal and the Potomac River to get as close as possible to the nests.  The Eagles are across the Potomac River in Virginia from our vantage points and the the Pileated Woodpecker and Double-crested Cormorants are on the Maryland shore.

These pictures were taken with the CP 5400 and the CP 5000.

Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus)
We saw both the male (here) and the female  working on their nest.
We found the Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) on the nest with first one eaglet and then two!
The following weekend we went to another close by site for further looks at the Eagles and other birds.  This is the ferry that we took over to an island in the Potomac.
At first there was one Eagle and one eaglet       . . .          then there were
                                                                                      two Eagles and two eaglets!
There were trees along the bank of the Potomac where Double-crested Cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus) are nesting.
