Chincoteague
I've been going to Chincoteague, Virginia since my brother bought a house there in 1972.  One afternoon, on our last latest trip in June 2002, I walked around the Island snapping pictures of many of our favorite landmarks.  I was prompted by photos from 1973 the owner of Don's Seafood has hung in his restraurant.  They remined me of the changes that have taken place on Chincoteague in 30 years, and that I should capture what is on the Island now.  Welcome to my nostalgia trip!

Here are 2 views of Don's Seafood in 1973, one year after I first visited.  In the first year, I remember the patio eating area wasn't even covered, it just had picnic tables.  This was Don's first expansion.
This is Don's Seafood today.
In the early years, we came for the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge on Assateague Island, adjacent to Chincoteague Island.  Here are the famous Chincoteague Lighthouse and two birds we photographed this trip.

Another reason we have come is the Carnival put on by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company to raise money.  They own the famous Chincoteague pony herd, which they swim over to Chincoteague Island each year to aution off new colts for herd management and further fundraising.
Memorial Park is where the horses land on the Island before they are herded to the carnival grounds for the auction.
Here are some of the eating and sleeping places on Chincoteague.  We have stayed mostly in the Refuge Motor Inn where they have an indoor/outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. <G>
Etta's is one of our favorites.
The Driftwood is across the street from McDonald's.
Mueller's is a great ole timey ice cream place.
Bill's has changed hands and is a fav place for breakfast and dinner.
We've never stayed nor eaten at the Channel Bass Inn, but we hear it is VERY expensive.
Here are some Main Street places for shopping, strolling or window gazing when the sun gets too much at the beach.
The only entrance onto Chincoteague is the old draw bridge that is supposed to be replaced, but some folks don't want it coming right onto Main Street while the merchants do.
The theater and barbershop
Water tours around the Island are popular.  These folks took us around this trip.
The library
Nice treats!
One of Daniel's early sources for Beanie Babies
Two empty buildings now
Good places for T-shirts, pony penning art, etc.
Two services we try to stay away from!
A wide slection of merchandise
We always spend some time on the beach.
